Can anyone tell me what this speech excerpt means? us history?

She's saying that it's not a woman's own needs that gets her to act (fight for women's rights), it's the health and well-being of her children and her country that gets a woman to fight for the right to vote. She's saying that women were more likely to become active in a political movement if it was going to put right a larger wrong than her own personal struggles.
